Caitlin Rose Burbige was a freshman at Lake Shore when she was diagnosed with Leukemia, a malignant progressive disease in which the bone marrow and other blood-forming organs produce increased numbers of immature or abnormal leukocyte.

Caitlin battled with cancer for almost two years. Throughout middle school and high school she was very active while playing Modified Volleyball, JV Volleyball, Modified Softball in addition to her induction into National Honor Society.

Sadly, on October 19th, 2017, Caitlin lost her hard fought battle. It has been one year since she passed away and in honor of Caitlin, the Lake Shore Senior Class and Student Government asked the School District to wear orange in remembrance of Caitlin. Student Government also organized a balloon launch at 2:45 pm on the JV’s softball field on October 19th. Not only did close friends come, but also her family, Lake Shore faculty and even people who weren’t very close with Caitlin came to show their support. Before the balloons were released we observed 25 seconds of silence in honor of Caitlin’s jersey number on the court and field.

Some close friends including Kaylee Peacock, Rachael Conklin, Lauren Wood, Celina Park and Leanne Schwartz spoke about their dear friend in remembrance. They spoke about the past year without Caitlin and shared how much she is missed.
