Many people have the wrong idea of what indoor is about.  People sometimes believe that indoor is an extremely competitive sport for those who do it.  But almost every athlete that is on the team says he or she use it to get in or stay in shape over the winter.

Each athlete has a different answer to that, like captain Olivia Alvira, who commented that “I am able to pole vault, which prepares me for pole vaulting in Outdoor Track”.  Junior Noah Hart agrees saying that “I use it as a way to stay in shape but I mostly come for pole vaulting.”

With Indoor Track you are able to practice and compete in events like pole vaulting that are unavailable outside of the sport.

Others on the team do it for the competition, including Junior Logan Wray who commented, “I come for the workouts and to get stronger, but the best part is the meets because you are really able to push yourself, and they are just more fun than practice.”

The meets are what draws some athletes like Wray, but others just come for the workouts, like Parker Cornwall who mentioned that he, “comes to stay in shape after Cross Country” when asked why he does Indoor Track instead of working out on his own, or working with Mr.Connors in the weight room, he commented “I wanted to keep doing workouts and go on long runs like Cross.”

There are more opportunities for athletes on Indoor Track than there is just working out in the weight room.  Indoor Track in itself is a way to truly prepare for Outdoor Track.

Athletes will get to work on events that they want to do in Outdoor Track like jumping, pole vaulting, sprinting and distance.

Indoor Track will conclude February 9th with a meet at Fredonia, and any questions about the sport can be directed to the coaches Mrs. Sue McGough or Ms. Tess Rugani.
