This Track season Lake Shore had twelve athletes make it to the finals meet this year, sectionals, in events ranging from hurdles to the two mile, and some of these athletes weighed in on their feelings about sectionals and their performances.

Sectionals is not for every athlete, as only the top sixteen athletes from each division compete, this meet is qualifier for the States Invitational, States is where only the top athletes from each division compete against athletes from across New York State.  Unfortunately no Lake Shore athletes made it to States this year. Lake Shore still had several strong athletes make it to sectionals this year though, like Sophomore Pole Vaulter Alex Bauer, who stated that upon receiving the news he had made it to sectionals he found it “bitter sweet” as he was “proud to have been ranked fifth in the section as a Sophomore and happy to have more time with the team” but it was also “bitter as (his) body was tired and needed a break”.

Bauer was the one of the youngest athlete to make it to sectionals this year for Lake Shore, but only one of three Pole Vaulters to make it.

Another athlete that made it was Senior Kendall Feldmann who states that she was “shocked as (she) believed that she had done poorly at ECICS”.

Two other athletes who made it for the Four by 800m Relay, which is an event where each of the four athletes run 800 meters, or two laps around the track, two of the four athletes in this relay Freshman Tyler Schott and Junior Logan Wray.

Schott said that he “felt accomplished, and surprised, and happy as the relay hadn’t expected to make it” while Wray “hadn’t even wanted to compete, but (he) had been coerced into one last race”.

Lake Shores if best 400m Hurdler, Taylor Lawn explained how she was “surprised as (she) didn’t believe she had run well enough this season, but she was also glad that the season wasn’t over yet.”

Each athlete commented on their preparation for their intense upcoming competition, the four by 800m runners commented how they had to “ do a couple workouts, and go on some shorter runs as to not wear out (their) legs before the competition”
Lawn said she had to work on “starters” practice was the first hurdle as to try to have a better start in their race.

Feldmann said the she worked on “correctly holding and planting the pole on her approach” while Bauer said he “watched Pole Vaulting youtube videos, along with stretching out (his) hip as it had been hurting, and eating healthy so (he) would feel good for sectionals.”

All of the athletes from Lake Shore had varying amounts of success at sectionals this year, like the four by 800m athletes.

Junior Logan Wray explained how they “had been ranked second last before the race, but, whether it be that (they) all put everything into it, or it was just a good race for (them), (they) finished more middle of the race which was nice.”

He said that personally the “race was very good, as because of an injury (he) had not been able to compete for half the season, yet (he) was still able to get a new personal best.”

Schott  just “put everything (he) had into the race, and left it all on the track” the team as a whole had a personal best of seventeen seconds, and multiple of the individuals also had personal bests in the 800.

Feldmann said that she was “not happy with (her) performance because (she) didn’t clear opening height in Pole Vault.”

Bauer was “unhappy with (his) performance as (he) was unable to clear twelve feet due to mental games”  he was most upset as it had been something he had struggles with all season, and “if (he) had cleared twelve feet (he )would have gotten fourth place, and made it to sectionals”.

Lawn had a disappointing race as she “had fallen over the second hurdle, causing (her) time to be slow, and an injury in (her) hip”.

Some athletes at Lake Shore had a better weekend than others, but all hold a sense of accomplishment for making it to Sectionals to begin with.
