New Tim Hortons Lids

February 7, 2020

Tim Hortons has recently started using new lids on their iced and hot drinks. The new lids made a debut back in July 2019, but just arrived at the local stores as of the new year.

They feature a strawless design meant to minimize plastic waste by getting rid of straws. Tim Hortons had not changed the design of the lids in over 25 years and decided it was time for something new. The new lid took nearly two years to design and the company conducted over 12 research studies to develop it, says former Tim Hortons president Alex Macedo.

Naturally, the new design faced a lot of backlash. Many customers are enjoying the new lid and the convenience of not having to use straws, as well as the advantage of less leakage from the hot drink cups. On the contrary, other customers are not as thrilled about the new lids. Canadian singer Justin Bieber even had something to say. He posted a poll on his Instagram story stating, “Who’s Canadian and misses these lids at Tim Hortons like I do?.  He also added that they are “uncomfortable on the mouth” and that they should be changed back to the old design.

It is uncertain what the future holds for this new design. The product is still new in the local community and many people have yet to receive one of the new lids with their order. People will make their own conclusions on the new lids once they get the opportunity to use them.
