Adopt a Senior

June 16, 2020

Being out of school since March has been tough on everyone. However, it’s safe to say that it has been especially difficult for the seniors in the graduating class of 2020. For years leading up to this moment, we have joked about having “2020 vision” and what this year would hold for us. I can tell you with absolute certainty that we did not see this coming.

With the school year coming to an end so quickly, many seniors felt as if their high school experience was not completed to the fullest extent that it should have been. Many thoughtful parents, teachers, and members of the community stepped up to the challenge to try and shine some light on the situation and give the Lake Shore seniors some recognition for their accomplishments during their years of schooling. This was when “adopt a 2020 senior” was created.

Each parent posted a photo of their senior with an additional comment about who they were and some of their interests. Then others took action and began “adopting” seniors in an attempt to recognize them for their accomplishments and brighten their days. They made baskets and bags filled with snacks, gift cards, and goodies based on what their interests were, and left them outside their doors for them to find.

On behalf of the senior class I would like to say thank you to every parent, teacher, relative, administrator, and community member who participated and made this whole event possible. Because of your kind actions, you were able to put a smile on our faces.

Thank you, from the 2020 senior class.
