Leaving the Nest
June 16, 2020
I want to take this time to discuss how proud I am to be a part of the graduating class of 2020. When we left school and went into quarantine, I thought that this was going to be the best; not waking up early or sitting through boring lectures, doing what I want every day sounded like a great idea. But when I heard that we were not going back, I was so upset and full of anxiety wondering what would happen with my last prom and if I’d ever get to walk that stage with my diploma in hand. I was scared that my chance to say goodbye had been taken away.
Throughout the quarantine, though, I have seen so much support and recognition for this year’s graduating class that now I see that this situation has brought us closer and shown the strength of our class. I want to say thank you to all of my teachers and friends for making my experience here so special and memorable, and for sticking with me through all the challenges I’ve faced. I already miss the football games, spirit weeks, and homecoming dances but I’ll forever cherish the time I’ve spent with all of you. I’ll be leaving Lake Shore to attend Daemen college for Nursing, with the goal of becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
Good luck to all of my fellow graduates on your plans for the future, I know the class of 2020 will do great things. One piece of advice I would like to leave for the lower classmen would be to not take your time at Lake Shore High School for granted; take advantage of every opportunity given to you, stay involved, and make some great memories because before you know it, you’ll be leaving the nest!
Peace out, Lake Shore!
